So this is a Ford 1172 special presumably - is the body home made or was it intended for manufacture?

Ford 1172 cc sidevalve is correct; I think it was just a home-built and not intended for production, though I'm not absolutely sure about that.

I've been waiting a while for this one! It's a 1959 Special made by a Mr. James of East Grinstead, England.

Probably Ford side-valve based, like the majority of these 50s glass-fibre specials.
