Yes, it is Australian, the photo is taken at a hillclimb, but I don't know the origin of the chassis. It's not VW engined.

I apologise to fromwien. This car was definitely constructed with many VW parts, although not powered at this stage of its development by a VW engine.

It is photographed in the 1970s, but not at Templestowe.

Sorry gte4289, after all your efforts, this is the correct answer.

Apparently, Lakeview hillclimb is near Bungendore (of course, on the tips of our tongues). The car was built by Dick Shoebridge with a VW engine, transaxle and front suspension, but was later re-engineered and in this photo it is driven by Gos Cory and is Datsun engined.
