No and no, sorry...

nicanary

I doubt this, but is it a 6CM converted to a road car?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

I can't believe it's a 8c with those wheels, so is it a road version of the 4CL?

Is the car a prototype of a model which never went into production?

There was a first A6 1500 prototype built in 1942. Is it that one?

It's Ernesto Maserati (with a very young Alfieri) with the sports car he built in 1942  using a single-cam 6CM engine. I suppose you could call it a prototype of the A6, although that car wasn't finalised until 1946/47.

(PS I've just found a photo of the mule A6 which was first on the road in 1945. It's nothing like this car.)

That´s what´I wanted to know...

Well, the second part of the answer after Wendax´post would have been Alfieri.

Now - what to do?

I think I give both of you a point... ;)

Any complains?

Thank you. I usually check Google Images first, but it wasn't there when I used several different key words.  I eventually just asked Google for info on 1942 Maserati prototype and it was the first entry! A very interesting site.I'm surprised that Ernesto could find the materials to built this car at that time in history, but Italians love their racing!

Agreed...

Sorry to be pedantic, but the builder of the car was Ernesto Maserati according to my source, pictured with his wife and son Alfieri.

I would also like to apologise to Wendax for appearing to use his guess to gain an advantage - I only noticed his post after I had found the puzzle source. A bit embarrassing. I have not shown a photo of the actual prototype of the A6 because we've not had that car as a puzzle, and I can use it at a later date!

No need to feel sorry, nicanary. It was just an educated guess. I wanted to be clever and searched for "Maserati 1942 prototipo" and found a site where the car was mentioned, but not pictured.  :)
