I can't find anything at all anywhere about the Typ number 764. The car is pictured in a number of places but without a mention of the Typ.
Before I change the title to include Typ 764 can someone please PM me a link to where that Typ is mentioned?

My source, which lists Porsche-projects done for Volkswagen...
I still believe, that this car is the Porsche Ghia prototype from 1960 (rear-engined 4-door sedan). As several times to be found in several publications (printed and online).
Type 764 isn't listed as a 'Prototyp', but 'Studie', whatever that means. I believe that the prototype is a driveable car, 'Studie' could also be only a sketch....
The car was part of a presentation of ill-fated Volkswagen prototypes in 1967. They were shown to two journalists from the German magazine "Der Spiegel" in order to refute allegations that Volkswagen just relied on the Beetle and didn't think of alternatives. The puzzle car is the third from the left in the last row.
I totally agree with you, 'Wendax'. know the 'Spiegel'-pictures very well. But I am still uncertain in this case, if Porsche 'only' made a 'Studie' (sketch, technical proposal, etc..), called Typ 764, and Ghia then, based on the Porsche-design, the 'Prototyp', shown in the picture (on behalf of Volkswagen).
I followed this assumption, as I didn't find any Porsche-project-number for Ghia's second 4-door-prototype (hatchback) from 1962 by now...
