Toyota Toyopet Crown, 1958 – 1959
Still not a Crown
Toyota Patrol BH26/FH26 Police car.
Based on Toyota Crown RS-Chassis.
Yes, it is a Toyota BH26 police car. I think the FH26 just had two portholes in the front fender. So the point is yours.
But it is not based on a Toyopet Crown RS chassis, but on the older H series chassis, hence the H in the model code. The bodieswere made in style of the Toyopet Crown RS, but with a longer hood to accomodate the six-cylinder engine.
It was actually described as the BH26 Coupé, since it only had 2 doors.
Production figures of this model are unknown, but it's thought perhaps only 2 of these were made!
I know your source, but the glasshouse is that of the sedan and the blurry picture makes it hard to differentiate if there is one door handle or two close to each other. Furthermore I can see a dark vertical line in the rear fender indicating the door joint. I think the book author has made a mistake calling it a coupe.
I agree that the rear side window is much longer than it is on the scale model of the coupé, but the top line of it curves down just like the coupé's, whilst the sedan's is much straighter.
