For a point, name the make and model of this car please.

Is this an early MK Sportscars Indy prototype?

Could be a vindicator?

But I'm not sure it is ugly enough....

Not a Vindicator as it's not quite ugly enough!

Need to look this one up but the windscreen is the boot lid from another car and it seems familiar

Solely as an observation, it bears some resemblance to this Fiat 850 by Lombardi.

From the UK?

Djetset

I can see the resemblance. Yes, it's from the UK.

It is the Robin Hood Go (a.k.a. The Go), so you get the point.

I didn't ask what its mechanical base was, but I can reassure you 101% that it is NOT based on a Metro, as it used Ford Sierra running gear (as can be seen by the wheels). I can imagine why you referenced the Metro as Robin Hood also launched another model at the 1996 Donington Kit Car Show (where the Go debuted, and where I took this photo), based on the Austin, but it is not this machine.
