The car from 1954 with an other VW eigenbau :

It looks like an earlier version of Karl Clemens' eigenbau: https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2018-48/pn-1109/
not from him, this was built by a coachbuilder

yes, a coachbuilder. It was the subject of an AP puzzle and at the end this car was referenced

Welsch?

Karosseriebauschule Kaiserslautern may have played a part here, because the aforementioned reference at the end of said puzzle says that this was a "Meisterstück". My own source just identified the coachbuilder

Karosserie Johann Köster
and another hit :)
Thanks for the point!
I am quite sure that this car is the Johann Köster VW (https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2017-46/pn-1358/) with a modified grill.
Karl Clemens wrote several letters to the editor of auto motor und sport, e.g. one about the Welsch masterpiece (see below), so he probably wasn't the builder of the pictured car.
I think we should merge these puzzles.

I agree!
Another picture of the Köster-bodied VW. The chassis is said to have been from 1952.
