If the info at a particular site I've found is correct, this is from Denmark, and is a 1953-54 DKR. (Or it could be the 1950 DK prototype, made by basically the same people, but I think that's less likely.) Can't find any info on any model name ever used with this make, however.

Oops -- sorry! I'm sure I must have read that rule at one point but I didn't retain it. In case my guess was way off, I was going to let my source of info look stupid instead of me! Guess it backfired on me!
Well, that was clue and according to my information it is not a DKR, but a DK, built by Bohnstedt-Petersen AS in 1950. The makers planned to use DKW engines (some sources mention Heinkel engine ? ). However the plan was defeted by the lack of second-hand engines.

This was an attempt to make a portwar car based on the prewar 2-cylinder DKW.
The makers planned to use second-hand DKW engines in a new conventional box-section frame, with hydraulic brakes and an all-enveloping body that slightly resembled the contemporary Borgward 1500. The plan was defeated by a shortage of suitable second-hand engines, and by the availability of new DKWs which were being made in both West and east Germany

Sixty-year old engineer S.A. Mathiesen (previously involved with the DK) joined forces with two others, Gabrielsen and Ahlmann-Ohlsen, to manufacture a plastic-bodied car in Denmark, which received support from the Danish government. The enveloping 4-door saloon body was mounted on an alluminium frame and was intended to offer American standards of roominess with european style light weight. Initial plans called for a 3-cylinder engine but the eventual car was powered by an 1100cc Heinkel flat-4 45bhp engine mated to a ZF 4-speed gearbox and driving the front wheels. As many as 400 cars per month were planned to be built at a cost of 15,000 kronor each, but the Danish government withdrew its offer of assistance, scuppering the project.

My "nick" is some nonsense I came up with when I found that all email addresses remotely resembling my name were already taken. It's based on my initials & the number of people in my family at the time.
Anyway, being a particularly green rookie, I got lucky on this one. The site I got my info from (months ago) had exactly the same photo, but MUCH smaller and with the background erased. Very glad to see a decent picture of the car for a change.
BTW, did I get 2 points for this? I had 4 before & now I have 6. Not complaining or anything, you understand...

I'd suppose that to be an earlier version or a prototype. Less quality, those old doors... But the body itself is quite the same.

That's what I meant under the 'old doors' :) It doesn't seem logical to put ones instead of a normal, I think.

This must have looked interesting when all the doors were open... Maybe you guys have seen this on a car before, but I can't say I have...
The doors? Try looking at any four-door Horch or Mercedes-Benz from thirties. Exactly the same thing :)

I've come across more information on the DKR 1953/54 (see below for an additional image)
Without giving a direct link, if you search for "Plasticbilen Roskilde" it should be the first result you come across.

In Geoff Hacker's site are shown one of the designers, Svend Aage Mathiesen and manager F. Gabrielsen with the puzzle car in theyr hands...
But it seems a real prototype was built, looking at the pictures in Replies #10 & #20?

Or I'm wrong, and the translation mixed the surnames. Confirmed, there were three names involved
I decided to moved it to solved, because the three surnames are written in the Fromwien answer.
The car was designed by Copenhagen civil engineers Svend Aage Mathiesen and Otto Ahlmann-Olsen. And the company's director Frode Gabrielsen.
