Title: An idea for content -- year by year "flashback" discussions
Post by: Boxer2500 on May 24, 2006, 08:41:24 PM
I got the idea from the Car Lounge (a large general automotive spinoff of VWVortex). The site is just too large for my liking -- one has to wade through a flood of stupidity to find anything interesting, but one thing that keeps me coming back there is the Automotive Flashback threads. They started out last year at 1920, and they've worked their way up to 1965. In each thread, anyone who has a valuable tidbit of information relative to that year can post. Seems like that may be an interesting thing to try here.

Here's a link to the index thread over there. Just take a look and see what you think.

I'd be glad to start the threads. But I'm afraid most of my entries would probably be from Wikipedia, or some such source. I'm not exactly an encyclopedia of pre-1980 automotive knowledge.

This sounds like an excellent opportunity for you to become one.  ;)

great idea! Might work better if we started with 1980 and worked our way back.

I'm thinking maybe set up one thread for each decade, from the '20s through the '80s. List significant cars and innovations from each decade, and whatnot.

Also, I wonder if this should be in the forums, or if it would be better as a front page feature.

That would be fantastic.

I agree about frontpage.  Write it here in the forums and then we will translate it to front page material.

Karn, how about keeping the "Nname that Car's" going in the forums and then we can translate that into frontpage material as well?

Karn, I got an idea.

Do the "Name that Car's" in the forum.  After they are solved, we will front page the best one's with a link to the forum to find the answer.  That way, people will read the threads and be even more likely to respond.

When the new new Autopuzzles site comes online (coming soon!), someting similar is my intent. Post the NTC's here, and ling them with a thumbnail and teaser on the AP front page.

If there are no objections, I'll kick off Boxer2500's thread.

I forgot all about this. Instead of doing flashback threads, I ended up going back to college.

May, 2006. Was that really three years ago?
