Information Requests || What is this car ? thread
« on: December 09, 2007, 11:14:16 PM »
I don't know what this is, where it is, how it came to be or anything at all, up to and including what end of the car you are looking at. I figured that youse guise are the right people to be asking what the heck it is. It may be a movie car. It may be kit based. It may powered by eels. It may love the taste of sauerkraut, long walks on the beach and evenings by the fire sipping General Foods International coffee.  I simply don't know. Do you?

Well ok then. Not even a guess? There's a bunch of people chatting it up about this over in the Carlounge.net. They've bounced the idea of a Sterling kit-car based movie vehicle, A Lancia (Nope) and a few random incorrect guesses. They have been as successful as we have, albeit much noiser with bickering, banter and the usual internet bullying of the carlounge.  You can read their suppositions, proposals and logic here: http://forums.thecarlounge.net/zerothread?id=3580967

This has got to be the front end, no? But that sure is a very strange place to put the headlights - assuming those are actually headlamp covers in the last picture...

I think it is the front end and yes, placing the headlights there is very strange. It's one of the reasons why I think it's a movie car. Logic and good design sense can go right out the window.

Hm, I think they took some stock version of a car I don´t know and put a very long front on it. So the main headlights lie unproportionally far back, of course.

This front end is quite extreme and I´m still not sure which car had this kind of movable headlights...

I am starting a new thread that is devoted for information sharing.

I am going to add the pictures of the cars that I need the information about. I hope the other user will be active and join this thread.

The main aims are:

1) To collect accurate and brief information (text & pictures) about the cars that someone (I or any other user) doesn't know anything about and can't find anything online.
2) To answer the question "What is this car ?" given by the users that don't know the car themselves.

You read my mind!
Everyone can post 1 car in this...section?...and give what he wants. In a few time there will be a lot of cars with all the info available from the net  and from our private collections (and we have people from USA, Brazil, Hungary, Germany, Italy...) . Who is interested in guessing the cars, will continue to do that, who wants to go deeper, will know where to find all that there is to find. The secret will be to post a limited number of cars and to move over when the river goes dry. This is just an idea I had for a while, but everyone can suggest how to improve it.

I moved it to General Automotive.  Perhaps threads like this one will help get some of you guys out of the puzzle section and using the whole forum.

I do not want anyone to reveal they sources, but just to share information.. And I think nobody is allowed to ask the cars that are not solved yet!

P.S. Thank You, Ultra, for moving!

In fact this topic is what I've missed about (a little) here.
Not only solving puzzles, but also a discussion about cars and their designers, coachbuilders, and (maybe) their relevance in automotive history in general.
Hope it succeed!

Start some threads about designers and coachbuilders.  Would make a fantastic addition to the site.  Write an article on this and you will end up a Feature Writer with all of the attendant privileges and that would really help to spur on discussion and site growth.

I still have one of my study works about CarDesign on CD, but 17 (seventeen) A4 pages (incl. pics) are waiting to be translated.....  :yuck:
And it's written very generally.
