Wow - cool. Getting into the press previews would be cool! Those run pretty much the whole preceding week, don't they?

Yes they do. Just spoke with Jean Hull frm DADA and it looks like I pulled this off

You da man!

Are press passes good for general-admission days, too? The 23rd looks like my best opportunity to get to the show.

I don't know anything more about press passes than I have shared. I will be learning more and sharing it as I do. I would really like to meet up with you, Otto, while I am downstate. I will be down there the 9th through the 12th. Let me know.

From my experience with press passes (last 3-4 years, motorshows, races, concourses etc.) a press pass allows you access at all times.

I've covered the Melbourne International Motorshow for the past 4 years, which I guess would be closest to that for size, and every year I've been on both the press day - only one - and the public days without any hassle.

As an aside, one of the greatest things about press days at motorshows is free food and hospitality.  ;D

Have fun, even on public days a press pass is a fantastic benefit, you're allowed on stands and get given a much bigger chance to experience the show than those people behind barriers do.

EDIT: Having said that, my word isn't law over there (one day...), so it might be a good idea to call and check just to be safe.

Back in 2005 my press pass was good for the whole duration of the Detroit Show.

And based on my 17-year-old experience, covering autoshows globally I can tell you a press pas is a very nice thing to have - whether it is in China, USA or France :)

Me too. I'm on a tentative list for customer visits in Mexico and/or New Jersey next week. I should know by late this week what my calendar looks like.
Title: 2010 Detroit Auto Show.
Post by: MG on January 06, 2010, 08:08:53 AM
Quite a bit to get revved up about at this year's show, starting with the supercharged, 546 HP Cadillac CTS-V. Wrote a little preview article (http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-21840-Providence-Automotive-Examiner~y2010m1d6-2010-Detroit-Auto-Show-Preview) today for your amusement.

God willing and the creek don't rise, Ultra will be in attendance and will provide us with commentary and photos galore from the floor.

Personally, I am mystified by the major manufacturer's obsession with horsepower. Its like the 60's all over again. Does anyone NEED a 546 hp Cadillac?   ???  I know I don't. It seems all the attention is at the upper end of the market and the hybrid/plug-in/electric end, which, quite frankly, is still outside the mainstream of what most American consumers are interested in. I dunno. It seems a crazy time in the car business. Now would seem to be the perfect time to introduce new ideas in every day transportation, ideas that would transform the market place, much as the original Honda Civic did in 1973.

But I guess that's why I don't work in product planning for any of the auto manufacturers. Either I'm stupid or they are. Time will tell, I suppose.

Gonna see if I can get the Hyundai and Tweet-ups to lead to access but Jean Hull submitted me to the committee and I was denied.  I don't qualify as press.   :crap:

This site will grow and their opinion will change........ :noid:

Title: What's going on at NAIAS?
Post by: GRAYWOLF on January 13, 2010, 12:40:35 AM
This looks like the most boring show, ever.

I always look forward to NAIAS for the concepts...Are there any cool concepts this year?

I received an email from MotorTrend that showed nothing but typical production vehicles. Thinking this might just be MT ignoring everything but what will sell the most, I popped over to carpoint.com (they usually are pretty good about covering the concepts) to find very little. The most exciting thing I saw was a rehashed Ford GT...

Is this a result of the bad international economy created by our government?

Trying to get Boxer to join me.

I need to figure a few things out but I'll try and make it.

I'm also in the process of pursuing some job leads and landing a cheap, most likely cockroach-infested apartment so if I can't get away this weekend it's nothing personal.
