I am writing this in a state of shock and utter disbelief as I have just learned that my very good French motoring writer friend Thierry Astier (an occasional Auto Puzzles contributor, under the name Cmetisse; last active in April 2018) tragically passed away late last month at the young age of 42 following a freak aikido martial arts accident.

Thierry was a real car guy, with huge passion for obscure cars, particularly Citroens, Alfas and Voiture Sans Permis. He was the founding editor of the excellent Generation Sans Permis magazine, and went boldly on to start the dedicated French Citroen magazine Chevronnes

As well as interesting cars, he also had a great love of British music and inde bands, which is how he learned to speak such excellent English. Thierry was a tremendous chap, a credit to motoring journalism, and he will be very sorely missed. My heart goes out to Katel, his family and friends.

R.I.P. Thierry, and enjoy your ride in that great Citroen CX GTi Turbo in the skies...
A car is for life, not just for Christmas.

Such a tragic accident. Losing any member of AP is sad enough, but it's all the more poignant if he was known as a friend.

I'm sure all Autopuzzlers will join me in offering condolences to family and friends.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Tragically taken far too early.
Very sorry indeed to read of that.
He was a very honourable contributor and writer.
