Any feedback on the project would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like a massive, but worthwhile, undertaking.

Also, I may have spot blindness, but how do I get to the letters other than "A"? Lastly, what's the procedure for adding makes to the list? Reply in this thread? Or is there wiki-like functionality somewhere?

Reply in this thread to add makes.

As Karn mentions in the introduction of the project, the makes are going up at a pace of one or two letters per monthly edition in order to ensure as much thouroghness as humanly possible and allow for feedback from people just like yourself.

All the "A" makes I could find in my books with non-zero production numbers are already included. May want to add that Aerobile was originally known as "Arrowbile".

Motorbase also lists Alexis with a production of 1 for the "Alexis GT". There's also Apal.....actually, before I go any further, is it safe to assume you've already included all the makes from motorbase that were up to standards?

The Great Karnac will be by shortly with your answer.

I did not use Motorbase as a reference. I found they have huge gaps, leaving their lists largely incomplete.

Ultra is correct; only "A" is included so far. Other letters have many fewer makes represented, so future additions could come in multiple letter bursts.

Please post additons here; I will incorporate them on an ongoing basis.

Wow...  this truly is a huge undertaking.  As you probably have realized by now, Karn, my knowledge of autodom is but a speck compared to yours.  However, a little link that might help is conceptcarz.com.  Perhaps they'll have something you don't.

Good luck!

Thanks for the pointer, Roo.

I'm a bit confused with the look of the final project. Will it consist of links to places that discuss (show pictures) of representative makes? Would be sorta cool if when hitting a link, it showed a picture of each known make/model and then subsequent links went to outside sites that had further discussions and pictures. This way, pictures are always maintained on this site and if a link should change, info. will still be captured. Also, it's nice to click on a link filled with tons of cool pictures. Also, would it be more informative to put the years of production in brackets next to the name? But then, that may not be your vision of things to come. Just wondering.

Otto Puzzell

All good suggestions - I'll incorporate what I can.

Link seems to go to a different article now. Anyway here is a rather nice list of Three Wheeler manufacters that would likely be useful.

That's a great site - thanks!

I'll try to get some update in this weekend.

Here is a nice Microcar site with a comprehensive list - if you don't already have this.

Your link to your list on the home page is not working.

Otto Puzzell

Thanks!

I was perusing that site this weekend in a failed attempt to solve a "Stump the Chump".....er, Utz quiz.  ;D

Here's another source for you, Karn...  tons of names I've never even heard of with pics, links & info.  How's the list coming?

The list is coming along OK, but I may have bitten off more than I can chew! ;D

Thanks for the link!

I can“t read the NTCP, the link goes to other page :(

Well, since I'm here.. I can't see it too. Is the project still alive?

Paul Jaray

Wow, I've never seen this place before!
That is exactly what I've been doing for years! I collected something like 5500 different makers, all from the past, with more than 40.000 different models and pictures! If I have to add the new ones, it will certainly double!
BTW I can't see it either...

faksta

Wow! You've already more than doubled my 2500+ makes pictured, with kind of an emphasis on competition cars... Of course it's yet in process, but.... I thought I have a big collection  :D

Ultra

We need to get those collections online here at AutoPuzzles.

It would take several years  ;D

I've also another project in progress, 4400 folders of different car makers with more than 200.000 pictures (and there are old cars, new, home made, one-off......) where I take (and where I put) all the puzzles.

It started 15 years ago, while I was at school. I made a short list of all the sports car (BMW , Ferrari, Lamborghini...). Then I said to myself, let's add also the sports car, GT and so on. I used a PC (it was an old McIntosh) and started a bigger list. I was collecdting magazines, so I took from there the cars. It crashes a lot of times. Every time I started again, including something more. At the end I start to put in this index all the cars in my magazines, and in the meantime my collection of books was increasing. Now I listed 40.000 models only from my books and few encyclopedias. I quit with the magazines after the Big Crash of '98! Now my magazines are thousands and I will start soon to add them in the index, because there are a lot of cars in small articles of my 1950's issues. I started collecting pictures from the web few years ago, but it was different, just a collection of weird cars. If I match the 5500 makers on my list with the 4400 of my folders, probably there are 7000 different makers! All this without considering the BIG books (like the Beaulieu Encyclopedia or the Standard Catalog) where there are thousands and thousands of entries! But I will add them all!
