Allan L (Allan Lupton)

I have to relay the sad news that our member Allan Lupton passed away recently. He died on 30th December 2025 - this information was obtained from another website forum of which we were both members.

I never had the opportunity to meet Allan. He absolutely refused to attend the Goodwood Revival, which he considered a circus rather than a serious meeting. He was by all accounts well-known in racing circles in the 1950s/60s, being a handicapper and marshal/steward at Silverstone. His knowledge and experience was huge, and he assisted me on several occasions to identify race cars and to provide a background history.

He was a total gentleman - every enquiry was dealt with courtesy and patience. I shall miss his prescence on AP.
The editors will now offer the position of moderator of the Vintage section to a suitable candidate.

This is so sad. I never met him but it's like I've been knowing him forever. Such a kind person and so knowledgeable. I will miss him.

I did meet him once and he was a lovely man.
As you say Andy, a real old-school gentleman.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Oddly we actually had a connection going back a long way.

My great great aunt, a well-known authoress in her time and described by the Daily Telegraph as "The Jane Austen of the North" was also a governess and she was governess to Harold and Edgar Lupton, twin cousins of Allan's great uncle back in the 1880s. They lived in Leeds, where the name Lupton comes from.
