Partly. The little racer is a colourful mixture. Originally it was a J2, but in the photo it has already mutated into a J4.

Is this the car of Geoff Coles ? He modified the car over a long period in all sorts of ways. I can't decide what that chrome pipe is coming out of the side of the bonnet - could it be a turbocharger ?

Unfortunately, my source does not give a name.
The car was modified over several years until it finally mutated into the J4. As far as I know, all J3s and J4s had a supercharger.
The photo was taken at Silverstone in 1973 and the exhaust note of the supercharged engine is said to have been unmistakable.

The normal supercharger location for MG J4s is between the front dumb irons so that pipe is part of the connection to the intake side of the engine.

My source refers to a 'Power-Plus-No 8' compressor. I have no idea whether this is the original MG version or the retrofit with an external version. The engine is said to have achieved 70 hp with it, but the J4 could do that too.
