The information is digitally available on the web, but somehow Google hasn't picked up on it. Even if you know his full name you won't get a useful result. But this way I found out his nickname was "Pot" and there is a (co-)pilot in the Belgian historic Rally scene with exactly the same name, driving an all time classic.

This must be one of the most elaborate hints in autopuzzles history

Blacksmith and mechanic Daniel Defever constructed this car from the remains of his motorcycle after an accident in which his wife died. The photograph is dated 1952.

  I gave up on this one some time ago, But the nickname hint plus location and  rally co pilot did the trick. Without that not a chance. So thanks for the help.
