I want to know the name of this car, its nickname and what was so special about its driver/builder.
moved.
Is this the rear? Any pics of the front??
Yes that's the rear.
front pics coming soon...
Well, by the looks of it, it's a boxer-4 lying there on the back, Porsche or VW twin-carb, right?
It's a Porsche engine! :)
But is that german made?
No...
Otto Mathe's "Fetzenflieger" a Formula 2 racecar, built in 1952 in Austria
Originally it had a 1500S Porsche engine, capable of 70 PS. Later it was replaced with a 4-cam130 PS Carrera engine.
Mathe participated in ice racing, road racing and sandbahn racing
All correct, but please take a look at my first post!
Locked for you for 24 h.
Otto Mathé had a disabled right arm
The car was converted to RHD so the driver could use his left arm for shifting, and the bench seat was set very close to the steering wheel so he could steady the wheel when shifting by leaning against it. Incredibly, the Mathe' was very successful as a racer.
Yes! Well done!
Any more pics of the car?
BTW, amazing driver. Reminded me of Alexandro Zanardi, who even after having lost both his legs still continued racing rather successfully!
Many pics are easily to find!
