Dear AutoPuzzlers,
I have to excuse myself to all of you, who tried to find the right solution for the coachbuilder of this bus.
Yesterday I found a second and much more reliable source, which describes this bus in all its details very carefully.
The coachbuilder is "Ernst Auwärter", as "pguillem" stated with one of his replies correctly.
So we have:
Make: Mercedes
Coachbuilder: Ernst Auwärter
Still to find:
Designation?
Type and special feature of the chassis?
Year?
I think, it will only be fair -due to my mistake- to LOCK for "pguillem" for three attempts to find the remaining answers
Sorry once again

-
"608D" ?
-
Very nearly correct
-
614D ?
-
No, the digits were correct..
Sorry, now open for all again
-
It is a "Cubstar", based on a LP 608.
-
Sorry, both, designation and base are not precise enough as necessary
-
Clubstar on LPO 608?
-
Clubstar is correct, but not the complete designation
LPO 608 not
-
LP 811?
-
No, the digits '608' are correct
-

L 608 D?
-
Yes. LOCKED for you to find:
1) Complete designation and special feature of the chassis?
Year (approx. as these buses were built over a period)?
-
Well, regarding the year the L 608 D appeared in 1968. The Ernst Auwärter Clubstar already appeared in 1965. Telling by the looks I'd say it was built around 1970. The complete designation may be the L 608 D follwed by a / and a number referencing to th wheelbase in decimeters (35?). The special feature which you didn't ask for initially may have been a Telma retarder.
-
Yes, the year is 1967 to 1969
I asked additionally for the special feature (not Telma retarder) as it is part of the car's designation. Not digits, but a German word
Wheelbase is 340cm
-
Was it converted to rear engine? Then it would be a L 608 H. There was a similar conversion done by Vetter for their Clubbus.
-
Yes. Rear mounted engine
Now I have three sources with three different designations of the bus:
1) Mercedes L 608 Heck Clubstar
2) Mercedes Clubstar Heck
3) Both of them in the text
At that time, to my knowledge, two 80 HP engine types (gasoline and diesel) were available by Mercedes for the L 608. I couldn't find out, which variant was used on this bus.
In my opinion, this puzzle is solved. You are invited, to make a suggestion for the correct designation.
FOR AN ADDITIONAL POINT: WHO DID THE CHASSIS CONVERSION (engine from front to the rear)?
-
Clerck?
-
Exactly. Here's your bonus point
-
Thank you very much, Clerck was a lucky guess.
