I know this bus has the entrance door on the left, which would imply it is right hand drive, but is it by any chance not Japanese?

The model was produced from August 1951 to March 1954. If the year you're looking for is 1953 I'm going with this one. Bodywork is a Kariya Y3AR [刈谷車体] (currently Toyota Auto Body).

Yes, correct! It is Yanase Takahama. A special 'super luxury salon bus' with a guest room in the front compartment, and longue in the rear. Kitchen, small hand wash, Refrigerator, etc..
