I have seen a Karlsson, but it's possibly a mistyped Carlsson.

It was neither Carlsson nor Karlsson.
I've re-read my notes and see that I need to correct something important. While there was a man named Gunnar involved with this car (a subsequent owner), he was not the builder/original owner. So forget about Gunnar; I'm looking for the name of the builder/original owner. Still locked for you, at least through the weekend.

My regular source has no further names associated with Mercury, but I'll work on the assumption that "Ford" covers the remit.

I have a distinct feeling that I've gone off in the completely wrong direction, but I'm like a stone rolling down a hill.
Evert Soloranta ?
(I've been through 3 pages on my search engine, translating each page, and can find nothing aboiut the puzzle car!)

Not Evert Soloranta. I'm not sure who that is, but it does sound like you may be headed down the wrong rabbit hole.

1949 GB 2 by Werner Tollefsbøl participating in a race in Drammen
Actually, this is the nameless 1949 race car of Werner Tollefsbøl (registered simply as 'Racerbil Eget Fabrikat'). Tollefsbøl sold the car to Gunnar Bratlie in 1954. Bratlie made modifications to the body (https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2017-47/solved-neh-1718-gb2-ford-v8-special-racer-from-norway-1949), painted the car blue, and dubbed it the 'GB2'. The point is yours. :)

I should have read the text more carefully. ;)
Thanks for the point.
