Glas/BMW touring?
-
It is a Glas, yes, and the BMW Touring was developed from it, so you're at least half way there.
But I still need answers to the other questions: what was it called, who was it by and from when does it date?
Locked for you.

Glas X2L Frua 1964/65
-
No. You might be thinking of this Glas prototype:

1971 Glas/BMW Studio for a "Touring"-version, based on a BMW 1600
-
Sorry, more Internet misinformation!
It's based on a Glas (which one?) but was known as a BMW..
Year is quite a long way out.
-
On the way, to solve this puzzle, you have sent me a link to an older solved puzzle,...
https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2012-41/solved-neh-2248-frua-glas-10041704-x2l-prototype-1965/msg242593/#msg242593,...
... where the car on the picture has been identified as the "Frua Glas 1004/1704 X2L prototype - 1965"
I fear, that's totally wrong.
Here within, I send you a picture of a drawing, made in Frua-Studios, which shows a 3-door-berlina, named X2L, based on a Glas 1004.
The former 4-door puzzle-car isn't a "Frua Glas 1004/1704 X2L prototype - 1965", but "Frua Glas 1004/1704 Limousine II – Project X3L from 1964":
Comment 328: Stefan Dierkes, Uwe Gusen, Matthias Herrmann & Andreas Schey
(to check on pietro-frua.de-website:
"Four-door small car based on the Glas GT with an longer wheelbase (extended by 8 cm); Planned for 1968-production with engines from 1.0 to 1.7 liters displacement as a successor to the Glas 1004–1304 (Rosellen 1985: p. 110).
Designation by Terasa (1984c) and later authors (Kraxenberger & Mader 2003, Gusen 2012) incorrectly X2L; This is how Pietro Frua called his stylistically related 2-door design."

No internet informations, all out of very confident car literature ("Libreria Automotoclub Storico Italiano, Torino" !!!)
-
You are correct about my earlier puzzle.
It may well have been sourced from incorrect web-based information at the time and the correct information might not have been available anywhere. New info is being added all the time of course.
The 2-door X2L never actually progressed beyond renderings.
I'll change the title of my earlier puzzle; thanks.
Back to the new puzzle then....

Wherever it came from it doesn't appear to be correct..
-
I have sent you my infos to your puzzle previously:
Frua drew a 2-door hatchback-version (X2L) for Glas, based on a Glas 1004, in 1965. Two years later (Glas has been sold to BMW), Hans Werner Bönsch remembered about these drawings, and developed (together with Wilfried Ball) a hatchback-two-door-limousine, based on the X2L-drawings of Frua.
The base was still the Glas 1004 (you see the 5 wheel nuts, instead of 4 on the BMWs). At first, they planned to use the 60-HP-Glas-engine of the Glas1304, later they chose BMW M10, out of the 1600-2.
Conclusio: Glas (base 1004)/BMW (engine) with Frua-based-bodywork, restyled by Bönsch and Ball

A different question how many letters in the name?
-
This is going to end up as a game of hangman!
:shakehead: I know a book with the solution! ;D
-
I would rather it wasn't just a pure guessing game; I infinitely prefer puzzles here to be solved using relevant car-based questions.
The answer is out there just by looking in the right place and there are plenty of questions which could be asked which would lead to the solution too.
-
You see, as stupid, simple minded people can be....
I remember the question, "Is it a word related to cars at all ?" The answer was, "No". And, "It is an English word..."
To be honest, my stated names, were "English" and names used with car makes... Not, like "Strawberry"
Was the name only one time used with BMW?

A colour picture from the other side:
-
Thanks.
Clearly taken at the same time.
Do you know if it has survived?
-
Never seen any trace of it, probably destroyed when the decision came that the Glas developments won't have a BMW future.
-
Thought so.
They did pinch the idea though!
