LeGrand Mk IV
-
Bingo!!
LeGrand MK4B by Aldin 'Red' LeGrand designed by Don Stephan 1965 USA
-
Pretty hard work, thank you so much for the point.
I only want to add some informations from my 'LeGrand'-source:
The LeGrand Mk4 sports racer was a modified Mk3, intended to compete in the G & F Modified-class in 1966. Originally designed for a 1000cc engine, the Mk4 was quickly redesigned to the Mk4b to accept engines from 1100 cc to small block V8s for SCCA classes. In fact, no Mk4 cars were produced, with the entire production was being Mk4b versions.
Mk IVB S/N 001: Commissioned by Gene Levin , fitted with a works Datsun twin cam engine. First entered in Riverside, 6/8/1967, placed 2nd in his first race at Phoenix in 1967! (the puzzle car); In 1965, Levin drove a Jaguar XK120
Mk IVB S/N 002: Built from a kit by Bill Lomenick with Maserati 2 liter power, first entered in Riverside, 6/8/1967, later known as the 'Chotis MSagro' (1968/69)
Mk IVB S/N 003: The second factory built car was bought by George Hollinger, fitted with an Climax engine. First entered in competition 1967! (Hollinger raced a Dolphin Climax in 1965)
It is unknown how many Mk4bs were produced. Al Nowocinski, the current owner of S/N 001, has tracked down a total of seven Mk4b cars
After producing his first attempts (Mk I, II and III) in his garage near los Angeles, LeGrand's were built in Aldin 'Red' LeGrands new workshop in in Sylmar, California.
With the Mk IV, Mk IVB, Red gave the design team a free hand and acted only as a fabricator. The engineering design has been done by Bruce Eglington (who sometimes worked in the UK), the bodywork styling by Don Stephan (US).
I do not know, which source is the correct one, but if I will trust my source, the MK IVB S/N 001 has never been ready built in 1965, and all LeGrand's MK IVB's were produced in the US
-
Otherwise the chassis plate on Mk4/002 shows 1965 production date..
Some more pictures attached
-
I've found two sources almost with the same info. But it wasn't clear where or when it was built. But everybody calls it 1965 Legrand MK4B.
Maybe you're right
-
As the chassis plate on Mk4/002 shows 1965 production date, it seems clear, that Mk4/001 should have been produced before 12/9/1965. As this plate doesn't mention 'Mk4B', it can be suspected, that there was a very long development needed from the production of the chassis to complete the car race-ready.
That may be the reason, why the Mk4B 001 appeared at first in August 1967 in an race program (or on the track?).
See pictures of the Riverside race program 6/8/1967 attached. Showing Gene Levin's LeGrand with race number #11

I think you're right. That's why in the historical sources aren't clear enough about the date
-
I attached a construction timetable, that led me to my opinion
