Well it looks like a Malzoni - DKW so presumably it is not one?

It is based on one!
So I'l lock it for you until your next reply to see if you can narrow it down.

I have a feeling something is missing from the grille - a simulated Alfa centre piece. If so this is the Malzoni replica from Brazil, that  runs on Alfa 1600 mechanicals.

Carnut

You seem to have the right car, but I have different mechanicals from those you say and what did they call it?
Still locked for you.

Hmmm- I have seen one photo which seems to attribute it to VW mechanicals, but it cannot be because it is covered in Alfa badges and called the Alfazoni - if we are talking about the same car? See the rear window in the photo.

Carnut

Yes, that is the same car.  It's called the Alfazoni and uses a Malzoni body, but what exactly are the mechanicals from?
Still locked for tobytwirl.

An aside, why does the site sometimes erroneously tell me that I have posted a reply less than 30 secs ago - then wipe my lengthy and carefully constructed reply.

The advantage is that you now get the short version!

FNM were the people who built Alfa Romeos in Brazil in the 60s and early 70s. They sponsored two successful competition prototypes. The second one, made in 1966, proved problematic in the body chassis department when it passed to a private owner. He had the idea of fitting the rear wheel drive mechanicals into the body chassis of a front wheel drive Malzoni GT - suitably shortened and modified. The engine was exchanged for a 4cyl 2.2 litre which was the basis for the then current FNM 2300 saloon - the Brazilian equivalent of the Alfa Romeo 2000 saloon.
Two were built, and were very successful in 1968/9 competition. The photo is of one of them.

Yes, I've had that silly message before..
You can sometimes retrieve what you've written by hitting the left arrow (go back one move!) but it doesn't necessarily always work..

That is indeed the basis of this car so you've got your point at last!
Well done.
