A sporty appeal in black and white.
For one point, please respond and identify this car.
-
Martini BMW 700
-
There certainly is a BMW 700 connection, but it is neither a BMW 700 nor a Martini.

Austrian

No

German

BMW 1600 / 2002 prototype
-
Good idea, but no. It is a BMW prototype though.
-
Is it one of the 4 BMW700 prototypes made by Autocars of Israel in about 1961, with a view to producing the car there but which never happened?
-
No, made in Germany
-
1958 Denzel?

No

De Carlo 700 Glamour?

Any Glas connection?

BMW 1000 prototype, which I believe was based on a Glas design?
-
Yes, now we've got the main parts together. Locked for you to find the name of this prototype.
-
Thanks.
I've trawled through all the BMW and Glas sites but can find no mention of this car let alone a picture.. Is there one one the 'Net?
The only mentions I can find all relate to the BMW 1000 prototoype which was puzzled here some years ago, by Allemano I think, which was based on a BMW but with revised front and rear.
So I can only guess its name; perhaps it was BMW 1004, to include both of what made up the car (the 1000 prototype had a Glas 1004 engine), or maybe they thought about calling it BMW Dixi as one site suggests the could have done.
This paragraph or one similar is all that apears about the 1000 prototype on any site:
QUOTE
These were nixed by BMW, who instead built an interesting prototype using the already-defunct BMW 700 LS, with a restyled nose and tail, and the Glas 1-litre plant in the rear. This BMW 1000 was apparently a lively little thing, but management preferred to keep pushing BMW towards the high-end market and not fight NSU and VW again in the rear-engined mini segment.

I took the photo from the web and it is still there. The name consists of four parts, three of which you already mentioned: BMW, Glas and 1000. The missing part is the BMW model it is based on, and that is not a 700. Have a closer look. Still locked.

Thanks.
Luxus?
-
Thinking about the right car, just the wrong part of its name.
-
LS?
-
Yes, that is the missing bit. This prototype was called BMW/Glas LS 1000. It must have been an earlier prototype that led to the BMW 1000 mentioned by you: https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2011-39/solved-allemano's-8470-655-1967-bmw-1000-prototype

Thanks.
That's very interesting. I note Michelotti's name in one of the drawings.
I had actually found a design by Michelotti which looked remarkably similar but with the front grille in a different position, but I had dismissed it as it was described as a 1961 BMW 1600 prototoype (pictured below). I note however that is a car which looks very much like it lurking under the picture you used for your puzzle! I guess he did both.
-
I think you are right, Carnut. There are a lot of Michelotti cues in the design, think, for instance, of the Triumph Herald rear end and the general lines of the cars. :)
