I think the photo was taken in 1956. The driver could be Merv Ward.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Well the Norton started out as a 500cc but it was developed over the years and stretched to 600cc.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Ah yes. It was an inbetweener. I just found your source, and at this point it was 550cc.
