I  think this is the 1957 Le Mans 85 Lotus 11 with the single-cam Coventry-Climax engine but the triangulation of the rear bulkhead is different in the chassis photo in the Ian H Smith book.
The more I consider the nature of speed, the more mysterious I find it.

Spot on.  I think the mistake I made including the file name may have helped.  Yes it is a Lotus Eleven.  I don't know whether it is a Club, Le Mans or Sport.
