I can see now that it was Fangio, but his white helmet was unusual - not his usual brown. Was it a demonstration run ? He had retired in 1958.

Yes, it must be a demonstration or simply the Maestro trying it out unofficially.
In 1960 Masten Gregory drove the Camoradi-entered Behra-Porsche in the Argentine GP carrying race number 2 - so Fangio didn't have to travel far.
