Sports car, created in the design department of the Minsk Automobile Plant (Belarus). Work on the MAZ-1500 began in 1957 and ended in 1960 the construction of two cars. The prototype of the design shape of the body, apparently served as a German Mercedes-Benz 300SLR. Both of them took part in the races in the 1961-1964. Good results they have achieved, and after the races have been destroyed ...

Hi, Dzima (Дима? :) )! Thanks for supporting the Soviet racing subject! :) BTW, MAZ 1500 was not the only sportscar that can be described as being MAZ. At the sports society in Minsk Automobile Plant (i.e. MAZ) there were some cars privately built before this one.

Hi, Faksta! :) I'm from Minsk, Belarus, but also MAZ-1500, I do not know the other passenger sports car brand MAZ. Какие ещё автомобили были у МАЗа? ???

They were not called MAZ, but there have been some sportscars privately built by MAZ employees in the factory's sports club. Of course, those were not factory projects, but they gave birth to this car, so I'd count them in. Actually, I'd consider them predecessors of the 1500.

Here is Yuri Kolobov from MAZ during the event at Neva Ring in 1960 (from ZR magazine). You can note the logo on the car, which refers to the 'Red Flag' sporting society from Minsk. He raced in 1600cc class, with another car being entered by Vladimir Maiboroda, who was the designer of MAZ 1500. Another MAZ employee, P.Timofeev, drove in 3000cc category in 1960.
