Here's one for you experts to sink your teeth into.... It's a total mystery to me i'm afraid, so i'll need to see some proof if you do know what it is. All I know is the photo was taken in Holland in the 1960s.... two points are on offer for someone who can solve this!

barrett

in case you are wondering, it's the small open topped utility vehicle in the centre that i'm after! Although as i'm feeling generous, I will award a bonus point to anyone that can name all other cars in the picture!

Arthur Dent

Interesting little utility vehicle - looks a bit like those modern tractors that haul baggage trailers at airports. Probably isn't one given its surroundings but does look similar.

OK, Here are the ones I think I can ID .....2 DAFS (1-1959,1- 1962), 1 DKW(Junior 1959?), 1 Chevrolet (1966 Impala or Caprice), 1 Opel Rekord (1959), 1965? VW Cabriolet, possibly 2 early VW Squarebacks in the lower left corner, Is that a 1963 Simca up in the left corner and a 1958/9 on the right side of the picture (dark car)?

DeAutogids

Well the DAF's have a typename. One is the 750 by the looks and the other a Daffodil.

barrett

Indeed they do, but as this is Holland the Daffodil would've been called the DAF 30, would it not?

I'll give mymokke a point, even though the VW 'squarebacks' are infact notchbacks, but i'm sure you meant to say this!

So, now to the important part..... who can name the vehicle in the centre?

I believe that we NOW call them 30, but they were as far as I am aware sold as Daffodil in Holland, 30 being the internal designation.

Now for that strange car, does it have DAF mechanics?

barrett

Hmm I had no idea, I thought they were always called the 30!

as for the puzzkle car.... DAF mechanics....maybe! Read my first post, I have no idea as to the origin of this one!

DeAutogids

I say that, as it reminds me of a early Daf Pony prototype, made for the American army.

Do you know in which town this photo was taken?

Some additions to the identification of the other cars:
-The old Daf is a 1961 600, not a 750 (already front indicators since April 1960, but still old, small grille only used on the 600 before September 1961. FD-license dates from 1961).
-The new Daf is a 1964 Daffodil 31 (edgier roof line than on the 30, since modell year 1963, JJ-license dates from 1964)
-DKW is not a Junior but a 1964+ F11 (edgier roof line than the Junior, low range version of the 1963 introduced F12)
-Chevrolet has a 1967 license plate
-Volkswagen Cabriolet might be a bit older, since modell year 1961.
-The dark Volkswagen in the lower left corner will be a normal 1961+ 1500 Typ 31
-The white one next to it a 1964+ 1500 S Typ 31 (recognisable by the have chrome side strip)
-the 1963+ Simca is a 1500 GLS (1500 by the grille and the long rear bumper ends, GLS by the hubcaps and the chrome side strip)
-the dark Simca in the right corner is a 1962 Ariane Miramas SL (the similar, older Vedette Versailles had overriders, 1962 because of new taillights, SL because of side trim and chrome on C-pillars).

DeAutogids

Yes,you identified the DAF's a bit better. Though the 30/31 can be identified by the grille already.

Sorry, I missed your reply. I'm afraid I don't know where or when the photo was taken.

Maybe this thread is yesterdays news, but I can tell by the rolled-up side windows on the '66 Chev that it couldn't be a Caprice because the rear qtr window is too long.
It's a 4dr. hdtp [not sedan] making it an Impala.
Caprices were 2drs. only that year. It would have a coupe like small qtr. window.
