I wouldn't have thought it was a Trials Car as the clearance between the wheels and mudguards is not big enough, but I don't know what it was used for for sure.

It didn't have an Austin chassis but it did have a Ford 1172 side-valve, yes.

I've just realised that nobody's asked the country of origin. Was it built in the UK ?

The chassis-maker was part of BMC in later years..

As far as I know the only manufacturer that got merged into BMC in later years was Jaguar in 1966, and the puzzle car seems way too small to be Jaguar-based. So, in your last reply, do you mean BMC, BMH or BLMC ?

"Later years" is of course a relative term.
I mean later in the life of the company rather than earlier.  But not as late as Jaguar.
They were part of all three of those companies you mention.

Alright, I thought you meant later in the life of BMC.

So, is it based on a Morris chassis ?

I don't know when it was built, but I imagine it was post-war (on a pre-war base).

An MG with a Ford 1172 s/v engine seems a bit like a trials special. Was this built by the Tucker-Peake family?

I keep reading its description but can't decide if it was actually built when the car was quite new.  That's what I took it to mean when I first posted the puzzle, which is why I asked for the date as I have it, but now I'm not so sure.

Ok, disregard the previous question from 5 months ago. :D

Is this 'Harpic' (MG J2 with Ford 1172 engine) of N. O'Donal Browne (sometimes driven by R. Edwards)?

My apologies. I didn't see your October 2024 post.
The builder's initials were not HJP, but his last name did begin with 'P'.
I have no record of N. O'Donal Browne or R. Edwards in connection with this car though.
