Does anyone recognize this creature? These photos were taken during the 5th Annual Reno Rally (September 22-23, 1956), in which more than 500 cars made the 60-mile run from South Lake Tahoe, California to Reno, Nevada. One point to anyone with verifiable information as to the base or the builder.

As in the U.K. builder of motorcycles? (Could all of that fiberglass be hiding a little 998 cc V-twin?)

Slim wheels say: Yes
Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate any evidence to support that theory.

The wheels are not particularly slim if the base of the car is pre-war. I'm guessing it is.

BTW most of the rally entrants seem to be European cars. That Rover P4 would have been a rare sight in the US.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

I have a number of photographs from this event and can confirm that the cars were predominantly European. As our mystery special was parked among a group of cars belonging to members of a local British car club, I suspect that it was based on a car from the UK.
