Is it the Cop Confusa Special, so called because the cops don't know whether it's coming or going? ;) ;)

Pro Confusa Special?

Looking at the central driving position and rear engine, was this originally a single seater and as it's VW-based was it a Formula Vee?

faksta

Right you are! I'll lock this for you until your next guess, as since I have no name for this car (is there any?), you're pretty close to the answer now.

Aha - I thought this would be easy to find! No way, I've just spent all afternoon trying to find it!

Anyway, I made the mistake of thinking this car was from Europe - wrong! so I wasted a lot of time with that (not totally wasted as I found some interesting things whilst searching - I found that Luigi Taveri, the multi-world championship winning motorcyclist recently gave a demonstration at the Oldtimer Expo in Budapest, Hungary. Amazing - he's 83-years old next month!

To get back to the puzzle car - it, as I thought earlier has been built on an early Formula Vee mechanical base and has been created to resemble the early Gloeckler-Porsche sports car.
The man responsible is Chris Runge, based in Minnesota, USA who had been wanting to build an aluminium bodied sports racer for several years. He has done a splendid job - building a buck and shaping the aluminium bodywork.
Chris Runge has his own website that gives full details of the construction process.
Oh yes, the car does have a name - it's called the "Frankfurt Flyer".

Two photos for comparison - the first is the original Gloeckler-Porsche and the second, the just completed "Frankfurt Flyer".

Hey, thank you for some extra info! Chris has made a magnificent car! I wonder what it is on the road having a Formula Vee undernearth.  I think that is worth two points for you - one point for solving a puzzle and another for providing an extra information, such as the car's name that I didn't know.

Thanks Faksta.
If you want to see the car under way and from the driver's seat too, just Google "Frankfurt Flyer" and the various websites and videos should come up. Send me a PM if you have difficulty.
I'm now going to take it easy tonight and watch the practice sessions for the Indianapolis Moto GP on EuroSport, so until tomorrow.....

Actually you're right, it is.
I thought it was one of the original Porsche-Glöckler Specials from 1949 but it seems it's that same replica as before.
In which case it's another clear re-post so shouldn't have been moved up to the Experts, hence it's being merged with no points awarded again since it was a wrong post.  Sorry.
