I only have a name - so a point for that
perhaps another point for the complete spec/year/country, etc.

woodinsight

No response from the rookies. Up it goes.
By the way, that's not tartan trousers she's wearing - it's just the poor scan!

barrett

Annoying, I haven't been able to dig this one out yet... All I remember is that it is French and dates from approx. 1970-73. I'll have to do some long-winded searching to find it again but I know I have it somewhere!

woodinsight

I only have a name - not even the country.
If you have more info that would be much appreciated.

Paul Jaray

If you have the name, you should know the nationality... ;)

woodinsight

perhaps........! but I'm not at all sure about it.

Oguerrerob

Same car but I've got no name

woodinsight

Barrett mentioned that he thought it was French.
The name I have seems to suggest that it may be Scandinavian - however I may be wrong (I frequently am :-[)

I don't think it will ever made it to the pro, but I'll add my info in case...

woodinsight

Not Toyota - I believe it's definitely European

woodinsight

Can the Pros finish this one off?

Djetset

This is an example of le Voiture Electronique by les Freres Jarret, current from c.1968 until 1975.

woodinsight

Djetset, I have little doubt that you are correct - I had it under a different name.
I may well be wrong in my assumption as my source (written material) was somewhat vague on this.
So - what to do - can you provide some evidence for your claim?
I'll lock it for you until your next reply

Djetset is on the right track !
The project of "La Voiture Electronique" was first shown at the 1968 Paris Motorshow. It was as far as I know the very first attempt to build an electric vehicle without any mechanical connection between controls and engines.
Two motor-wheels, a stick with sensors that can accelerate, brake or steer it by pushing or pulling it in all four directions. In fact, to steer it you'll just command difference of speed between the two motor-wheels, quite like a tank. The brains behind were Mr. Jean & Jacques Jarret.

This version was shown in 1970, it was named the Stil.
A big company "CEEDEVE" (Compagnie Europeenne d'Etudes et de Developpement de Vehicules Electroniques) was created with big investors like Alsthom or even Daimler AG, but the idea wasn't properly developed. The only 'serial' version, the Porquerolles was built in tiny numbers, but wasn't half as clever in spite of looking quite the same. The stick command the front wheel with linkage, the engines transmitted their power by chains...
In fact, the Jarret brothers very soon stepped out of the company who created it.
Still, the Porquerolles was I think one of the very rare vehicle sold to public without any steering wheel, handlebars nor pedals...

A friend of mine had the chance to find six prototypes of the true Voiture Electronique in a broker shop of Normandie, some 8 years ago !!

Oh, sorry for that ! I've read too fastly...  :o

woodinsight

That's put me in a bit of a quandary now as Djetset guessed the correct marque.
cmetisse has completed the answer by providing the name I had for it, but it was locked for Djetset to reply.

As it's the season of goodwill, I have no hesitation in awarding Djetset a point but will also give cmetisse a point for his very full answer and for revealing the name I had for it.
Be careful in future though cmetisse, other puzzlers may not be so lenient as me.
Always remember to read the threads carefully first before posting.

Anyway well done you both obviously knew the car and I'll move it to solved now.
I hope that other puzzlers will agree that this is the best solution.

cmetisse

Anyway, I think I don't deserve that point, as I know that Djetset would have find it.
He has an excellent knowledge of contemporary microcars, so I really think that second point belongs to him too !

Again, sorry for the bad timing of my answer !

woodinsight

No it's okay, Djetset got his point and I'm awarding you a point for your full reply including the history of this project.

Djetset

Been away from AutoPuzzles for 24 hours, and an awful lot seems to have developed!  Thanks for the point Woodinsight.

When I return home home during the Christmas break (assuming I can make it through the snow) I will dig out some more information and pictures of the Jarret cars  :)
