What was the make of this car, who built it and what was it based on?
(apologies for the poor image)

roger

On a Beetle chassis ?

woodinsight

Certainly VW powered - not sure about the chassis though

For 1 point. Please solve the following: year/base model chassis/manufacturer(designer's name)/vehicle name/What is so unique about this vehicle?

roger

Other than that,

Is this another angle on a previous photo

Gotta, do more, it is best to ask questions that lead you to a definative answer. Asking ..what I am asking for..won't do.. Keep going & good luck.

qwaszx

Zodiac Motors Virgo-VW?
It is the VW-based Virgo.
I have the builder as Zodiak Motors but the point is yours.

I recognized as well, but didn't want to interfere... :)

whcgt

Wow! What an unfortunate circumstance, somewhat upsetting..as my puzzle is more telling of this car. I did not even recognize that grainy black & white car of woodinsight.

That is the interesting part about it and there's not a word about it in the other topic...I have a nice article to post.

Allemano

I believe it was on the title of a popular magazine...

whcgt

Zodiac Motors a division of Barbary Coast Enterprises, designed by Beau Hickory. This is a 2 in 1 vehicle. With the 2 outerskins on..it is a sportscar..with the 2 outer skins off..it is a dune buggy(very unique & cool).

woodinsight

It seems that this is the same car as whcgt's #84.
My image was copied from a very small photo in an old magazine and it was the only one I'd come across.
I have to say I didn't connect the two but I'll let whcgt (the expert on these type of cars) explain in more detail.

Yes, quite a shocker for me..I did not even recognise your car..I tried to solve your car..using keywords relating to Lotus23 replica!! I thought this was my opportunity to finally post a puzzle car from a certain website, that I am a member of. Oh well, it is really just a unique situation that has occured, no big deal & the car is definately solved now. :D

woodinsight

I'm glad it worked out okay in the end  ;D
