Quite unusual fender design.

For one point, please respond and identify this car and the year it was built.

I hope not to be unfair telling it... but the "coloniale" is only the base.
The car was actually made by Viotti for the EIAR (the Italian broadcasting company). 2 units were built in 1940 and now are under the sea in the Sicily channel, where lies the ship that was carring them to Libia, sunk by the British army.

Being FIAT vehicles, I'm sure they immedaitely rusted away to nothing, upon coming into contact with the salt water.

I don't think so... not only because I'm a Fiat fan: there are many pictures taken by divers in that ship and the cars are still today in pretty good condition. Just the tires are completely disappeared.

I know...  ;)
This is an interesting story. I saw the pictures on various magazines in the past. Now I'm trying to find some...

Congratulations, SACO. That answer is sufficient for a point.

als15, I don't think that your answer is unfair as it supplies additional information. Let's make a deal: if you are able to show the underwater pictures, I'll grant you an extra point. I hope you'll find them, because this story sounds very interesting.

Not a very good picture, but it's the only one I got on the web. Unfortunately, I'm not able to find none of the magazine I'm sure featured those cars.
