Dick Shattock's RGS Atalanta cars were so-called because he used Atalanta chassis, or chassis parts.  The bodies were just RGS not RGS Atalanta.
The Atalanta chassis looked like this:

That one has a supercharged Gough engine which Shattock wouldn't have used. I remember a Jaguar-engined sports-racer, but not this car which looks as if it may have had a Bristol engine.
Sorry Allan, the body as you say is RGS not RGS Atalanta.

So this is an RGS body, rather than an RGS car?
Pre-war chassis that would be about the right size might be a Riley 12/4
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Riley is correct. The year is 1936. I have it as a Kestrel base which presumably includes the 12/4.
The RGS body apparently dates from 1954.
One point to you Allan, well done.....

Goodness me!
But have we solved the identity of the engine?  Riley Kestrel, as you say included a 12/4 version which was probably the best.

My source tells me the base car was a 1936 SS 27 Riley Kestrel but nothing more relating to the engine.
