SACO

Yes , Jaguar Mk IV cabriolet by Van den Plas( Bruxelles ), 1947
Another point for you !

D-type

Are you sure about this?

According to Jaguar historian Philip Porter
QuoteIn 1948 the company announced its first new postwar model, although it was actually another stopgap compromise.  This model was named the Mark V, for no better reason than that the production car was the fifth prototype to be built
but he does go on to say
QuoteThe new Mark V could be had in drophead coupé form although this animal is extremely scarce in Britain because the vast majority, like the earlier models (sometimes unofficially as Mk IVs), were exported, mainly across the Atlantic.

In the interests of accuracy I suggest removing the words  "Mk IV" from the thread title.

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

I had this doubt too; actually the history of mk IV name's birth is not so detailed and easy to obtain, but this Van den Plas DHC, that some years ago has been restored and painted in silver and metallic blue, seems to be  called mk IV everywhere.  Doubts I was talking about concern the fact that this name, universally used, is correct or not; the advertise leaf I posted doesn't use neither mk IV nor mk V denomination, and I think this depend on the fact that mk IV denomination was not an official one, but it began to be used to identify 1,5-2,5-3,5 litre (ex SS) after mk V appeared. So, why don't call this car "Jaguar 3.5 litre DHC Van den Plas, 1947"?
