In this puzzle, there are pictures of 13 hot rod and/or custom cars, derived from everyday automotive transportation. Some are mild customs, some are pretty wild. The rules for this puzzle are a little different. You must guess all 13 puzzles in your response - a baker's dozen of kool kustoms - partial answers will not be replied to. Once a 13-guess answer is posted, I'll let you know how you did.

Each AutoPuzzler is allowed one slate of guesses per day.

Them's the rules.

Enjoy!  ;D

What do we have to do: guess who made them or what car they are based on (as the question seems to imply)?
Also, you already used the car in WWT8: this is the unsolved Rookie  Puzzle #843.

I'm looking for what they were, before they were customized.

Re: 8 - you are correct. I've switched it now.

I'm going to bump this one upstairs, so that everyone can play.

I've got six solved (well, not quite solved... for some I only know the car and who built it). Maybe next year I'll have them all...

Number 7 looks rather like an FJ Holden, so I'm guessing it's a 1949 Chevrolet Styleline.

Ray B.

So, if I got the rules alright, I'll be allowed to make later guesses. So why not try my luck now?
I am only sure of 6 so I'll make random guesses for the others.
WWT1 was (and still looks very much like) a 1953 Mercury
WWT2 is Darryl Starbird's Trik Truk and was before... let's say a Sherman tank.
WWT3 was maybe a DeDion-Bouton 16 cylinders.
WWT4 is Rod and Custom Magazine's Dream Truck, and started its life as a 1950 Chevrolet 1/2 truck.
WWT5 is... and was... a Ferrari 370 GTB
WWT6 is the Roamer, that is a former Brubaker Box an a VW bus chassis.
I don't know what WWT7 is, but I didn't need to notice a ressemblance to a Holden to see that is was a 1949-52 Chevrolet two-door before.
WWT8 is the Eclipse pickup and started as a 1932 Ford roadster.
WWT9 is an Austin Allegro customized by Andy Saunders alright, but I din't find that it's Quiller.
WWT10 was probably a 1977-1979 Lincoln Continental and now a lowrider's nightmare.
WWT11 is Elden Titus' Vampyre based on a 1987 Chevrolet S-10 pickup.
WWT12 is a modern interpretation of "la 403 des records" based on an Audi TT

Very well done!

WWT1 was (and still looks very much like) a 1953 Mercury Yes!  :)

WWT6 is the Roamer, that is a former Brubaker Box an a VW bus chassis.  Yes!  :)
I don't know what WWT7 is, but I didn't need to notice a ressemblance to a Holden to see that is was a 1949-52 Chevrolet two-door before. Yes! (1950)  :)

Thanks. Your Yes and No are no surpise to me, as you can guess.
When you will grant the points for this one, remeber that I don't deserve one for WWT9. I would never have found it by myself.
He Touched Me With His Noodly Appendage

@re

Does this mean that we can have a go at those that are not correct?

If so, I'll say that the Trik Truk is probably based on a Chevy - at least it's got a Chevy V8 engine.

And I'll guess Chevrolet Caprice on number 10, but then again I'm not very good with American cars, so it's probably wrong.

Number 13 is GM's own Pontiac Solstice SD-290 from 2007.
1974 Fiat X1/9 1500
2005 Alfa GT 1,9 JTD

Ray B.

@re just made me notice that I couldn't count more than twelve.
So: my guess for N°13 was in fact this one "... a modern interpretation of "la 403 des records" based on an Audi TT" (but of course @re is right and I'm wrong). And my guess for N°12 would be, let's say... a VW Scirocco.

@re

Well, I'll reserve my right to think that's a strange rule, as most of the puzzles have already been guessed - and Ray made 12 and not 13 guesses, so technically, his answer was also a partial one - but here we go:

WWT1: 1953 Mercury. As Ray B just said.
WWT2: Darryl Starbird's Trik Truk. I'll repeat my guess that it's based on a Chevy, because I know it has a Chevy V8 engine.
WWT3: A 1930 Buick. Just to prove that I'm crap at American cars.
WWT4: 1950 Chevrolet 1/2 truck (Ray B)
WWT5: How about a VW-Porsche 914? Probably not...
WWT6: I saw that it was a Brubaker Box, but I'd never heard of the Roamer. Ray B's point, anyway.
WWT7: 1950 Chevrolet (Ray B again)
WWT8: 1932 Ford roadster (Ray B again)
WWT9: Austin Allegro by Andy Saunders (Ray B again)
WWT10: The infamous wannabe-Rolls on such rims was based on a Caprice, so I'll stick with that guess for now.
WWT11: 1987 Chevrolet S-10 pickup (Ray B again)
WWT12: A Scirocco is a very good guess, but it would be boring to guess the same, so let's say a Corrado instead. It appears to be Czech, anyway.
WWT13: 2007 Pontiac Solstice SD-290, based on... a Pontiac Solstice!
1974 Fiat X1/9 1500
2005 Alfa GT 1,9 JTD

Ray B.

I only made 12 guesses in good faith, @re, I made it clear above (I thought that N°12 went with the picture below). Of course, some of my guesses were just jokes, but Otto never said we had to make only serious ones.

@re

Yep, I figured out that you'd just counted wrong. You can consider the 1930 Buick guess a joke as well...

But this rule means that we will have to guess all the remaining puzzles in order to be judged, right?

WWT1: 1953 Mercury. As Ray B just said.

WWT2: Darryl Starbird's Trik Truk. I'll repeat my guess that it's based on a Chevy, because I know it has a Chevy V8 engine. To be fair, I'll need the vehicle type, not just the engine...

WWT3: A 1930 Buick. Just to prove that I'm crap at American cars. Not a Buick

WWT4: 1950 Chevrolet 1/2 truck (Ray B)

WWT5: How about a VW-Porsche 914? Probably not... Nope

WWT6: I saw that it was a Brubaker Box, but I'd never heard of the Roamer. Ray B's point, anyway. (You were spared what was, perhaps, one of the worst kid's TV shows ever. Google "Ark II" if you'd like to see more.  ;)

WWT7: 1950 Chevrolet (Ray B again)

WWT8: 1932 Ford roadster (Ray B again)

WWT9: Austin Allegro by Andy Saunders (Ray B again)

WWT10: The infamous wannabe-Rolls on such rims was based on a Caprice, so I'll stick with that guess for now. Yes! :)

WWT12: A Scirocco is a very good guess, but it would be boring to guess the same, so let's say a Corrado instead. It appears to be Czech, anyway. Not a VW, but you are close to the answer

WWT13: 2007 Pontiac Solstice SD-290, based on... a Pontiac Solstice! Yes!   :)

WWT1: 1953 Mercury (Ray B)
WWT2: Darryl Starbird's Trik Truk. Built 1979, mid engine: 350 Chevy V8, blown and injected. Interior: Pivoting steering wheel, dual controls, electric lifting top for entry. Body: Handmade metal. Four front steering wheels. Base: '80 Chevy Van. Finally found a picture (of Cecil the Diesel, actually) that was big enough for me to read the poster on the wall next to it :)
WWT3: Wait a minute. It's right-hand-drive! It couldn't be a Bentley, could it?
WWT4: 1950 Chevrolet 1/2 truck (Ray B)
WWT5: Not a clue, really. I could say Fiat X1/9 or Lancia Scorpion/Montecarlo, but I suspect I'm still a long way off. The annoying thing is that there's something familiar about it, like I've seen it before somewhere – but I can't make the connection.
WWT6: Roamer (Ray B)

Thanks a lot, neilshouse! I was totally unable to identify this one and you're obviously right. You're getting us close to solving this one.
