Fascinating puzzle!!

The car fairly shouts "BMW" in looking at the grille itself and the general outline of the body.

However, the headlamps are separate, not built into the front mudguards/fenders a la the 327/328 series and the cooling louvers in the side of the motor hood are completely different from a normal BMW as well.  Also, the wheel covers are different.

So, we seem to be looking at some sort of replica and may I ask if it is even something made in Germany?

Ecnelis

It is German car. Replica it is not!

Bill Murray

Well, first guess was pretty far off.

How about an EMW prototype for the EMW 327 perhaps?

Ecnelis

Not EMW. Not prototype.

DKW crossed my mind as well and finally found it I believe: 1934 Ihle DKW

Ecnelis

Yes! Topic locked. Which DKW model it is?

Correct! It is one-off DKW F5 Roadster with body by Gebruder Ihle Bruchsal.

The BMW's kidney-grill originated from Ihle brothers works, starting from Dixi-based projects.

Wendax

It was not a one-off. This was the Ihle 800 body which could be applied to DKW, Ford or Opel chassis. We had it here before, with Ford Eifel chassis as a puzzle, and with a DKW chassis as an addition: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=16149.msg190577#msg190577
