Who knows this hunting car?

Rhodesian? Interestingly, it looks as if the chassis rails are made of wood. ;D

grobmotorix

The man who built it, lived in the Florida Keys.

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

grobmotorix

Pre 1940 - so it can´t be a Jeep chassis... ;)

Was this car in a movie?

Jeffery (later Nash) Quad chassis?

grobmotorix

QuoteWas this car in  movie?

I don´t think so.

QuoteJeffery (later Nash) Quad chassis?

I only know the builder of this hunting truck and the state where he lived...

4popoid

You say the builder lived in the Florida Keys.  Arguably the most famous resident of the Florida Keys was Ernest Hemingway.  Might this be the name you are seeking?

grobmotorix

Very good idea.

Florida keys is correct, but the builder was not this famous at all.  :-\

4popoid

Hmmm, a not very famous resident of Key West.  Perhaps Joe (also known as Sloppy Joe) Russell, a Key West bar owner and fishing buddy of Hemingway?

grobmotorix

I was not able to find any more information about him or his car than the year and the name of the builder/owner...

He is not a known person.

pnegyesi

is there any info available online?

grobmotorix

I found it online, but just as a scan. So you will not find any text about it you might find with a search engine... :-\

pnegyesi

did you find it on automotive forum dealing with off-roaders?

grobmotorix

No. It was featured in an Austrian magazine from 1938:

pnegyesi

Are you sure it was in 1938? If so, then I did not spot it.

grobmotorix

I went through almost the complete source during the last year, which included also searching through many non-automotive magazines...  ;)

pnegyesi

I started again and found him (BTW I realised which magazine you meant)
Mr Winton Peebles from Miami

Now - I was not sure if someone would really find it, but you have found it!

Btw: it is a german "d" in his name.

Very good!

pnegyesi

Yeah, I saw the "d" but it just doesn't make sense
