That's the car.  I wonder why they called it a 'Spyder'?  Did they know what that means?!

To GM in the 70's, "Spyder" meant "sporty version of Corvair from the 1960's".  Available in hardtop and convertible...

Since car names are more about image than meaning, "spyder" was just another exotic-sounding (and spelling) European name that implied "sporty" -- like "Monza", both terms used previously by GM.

Or "GTO" and its base-model sedan, the Pontiac LeMans. It's all about the image   ;)
