Brand and model designation earns you a point!

It looks very similar to an EB 50, so probably it isn't :sigh:
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

D-type

A Falcon Mk 2 fibreglass body on Ford 10 underpinnings.  The builder of this particular car could have named it anything he felt like.
Duncan Rollo

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

There are a few commercially available shells that I have not been able to find pictures of, so I guess it could be one of those.

Let's start with Vixen?

Arunas

This one must be very obscure...

Was there any separate company behind this car?

Carnut

Any Buckler connection?

Not this!

It's a short list, so it won't take long... How about the Hepworth, from Wakefield?

Townend?

We are there! Just need the model designation (not hard...) - locked for you

barrett

I'm not entirely sure. How about 'Sports' ?

Worth a try! (but no)
A bit of hunting around should reveal the answer...

Townend 581 I guess!

Thanks for the picture - would love to see anything more you have on these cars

A rear view below, plus a tiny bit about the car (but  no other picture):

Townend 581. This smart little body two seater, which includes windscreen, head light covers and panelled doors all for £108, or the latest four seater in superb styling.

Bravo! Not many 1950s bodyshells remain unidentified now...

Carnut

Thanks for the point Quiller but it should actually be barrett's!
I'd found the model name (or number actually) but couldn't post it because it was locked for barrett; only after he'd posted it could I add my picture, which I have to say I wouldn't have found without barrett's Townend ID.
So please deduct my point and give it to barrett instead.

Please identify brand and model for a point

It's obviously British and seems to be based on a Ford 1172 cc sidevalve, going by the wheels.
Was it made by one of the glass-fibre body makers who made other models too?

yes, this is all correct. One of the lesser known brands, but it has appeared on AP before
