Yes, it was based on an AMC Gremlin (without X package, however).

According to the E-Bay auction of 2018 (no longer visible unfortunately) the car was a "X1" and modified by its third owner who owned the car for forty years. Have so far not been able to find a name of this owner.

I'm not familiar with the 2018 eBay listing; my source is much earlier than that. To be clear, I'm looking for the name of the customizer who built the car, not the name of the person who owned it at the time (although I have both).

Yes, I found it on a public FB page dedicated to the work of this customizer. Unfortunately, the page contains no Google-searchable text containing the terms "AMC" or "Gremlin".

As to the obscurity of the customizer, a Google search of his name and "customizer" (both in quotes) returns 1,130 results. A Google search of my own full name in quotes only returns 748 results, so I suppose he's considerably less obscure than I am. :P
