And the Newman grille (the part resembling this car) was added by the crew at Chaffey College after-the-fact, not by Eisert.

This Beetle was fitted with a 6.2 litre V8 Chrysler engine in the front. It had a four-barrel Carter carburettor, and produced 227kW with 555 N.m. of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a two-speed auto tranny.
This beast was built by Peter Michaels for a Hot Rod & Speed Exhibition in Cape Town, early 1969

You're correct! The reason I've been slow to respond is that I had intended to use a different Beetle for this puzzle but uploaded this image by mistake, so your answer caught me off guard! ;D
