Yes.More or less. This was actually 2 engines which had been joined together.

The engine was a flat eight, 2 flat-four Buffum engines joined together.

Buffum flat-8, 1904, It had four coupled flat 2-cylinder engines.

Yes Hermanoto that is correct.
My source describes the car as "The Buffum Greyhound racer, made in Abingdon, Massachusetts in 1904. The power unit consisted of four, two cylinder engines bolted together, with four carburettors and four water pumps.
