Rust A was not built by a Mr. Stanley as far as I know.

Architecture 16 : Municipal Corporation Building, Mumbai, by Frederick William Stevens
Rust AF : a Stevens-Duryea ?

Two more that I should have seen a long time ago:

M. 1922 Ariès CC 4/B Torpedo - 4: Aries Ave (part of the Karnak temple complex) - n: Lennson CC by LeTech

P. 1913 Willys-Overland 69T - 9: Roman Praetorian Guard Commander's House – f: Torsus Praetorian Overlander

Rust R : based on BMC underpinnings ?
Extra c : Cal Niday drove for Jim Robbins team but also for Myron Stevens team.

Architecture 16 and Extra c connect, Stevens being the connection.

Rust R is BMC-based.

No, a much less mundane car
Much less mundane?
Sorry, a clear case of false friends. While the German mondän (like the French mondain) means sophisticated, that is just the opposite of the English mundane. I meant that Rust I is not a luxury car.

Architecture 7 : Innenhof der Burg Blomberg.
Extra ai : Gerhard Schröder in a VW factory. He was born in Mossenberg-Wöhren, Blomberg.
Rust A : a VW-based car ?

Architecture 7 and Extra ai are correct and are connected just the way you said.
Rust A is not VW-based.

AF: 1907 Runabout by Everybody's Motor Car Manufacturing Co. - 18: performance of 'Jedermann' ('Everyman') at Cathedral Square, Salzburg - a: Porsche Salzburg Volkswagen Beetle 1302S (I think at 1972 Austrian Alpine Rally with driver Gunther Janger)

And here's a wild guess:

I: La Licorne 164 LR - 28: Rainbow Warrior memorial at Matauri Bay, NZ – y: Matchbox Guy Warrior car transporter

Because unicorns and rainbows belong together :D

Here's a crazy thought:

Rust R (probably based on a pre-BMC Morris Motors chassis) hails from Flint, Flintshire and is therefore called the 'Flint Frankenstein' (or 'Flint Express', or something similar).

R: 'Flint Frankenstein' (or similar) - 22: Durant-Dort factory in Flint, Michigan - b: Durant racer

Very nice! You are almost there. Rust I is not a Licorne 164 LR, not even a Licorne, but very closely related.

No, Rust R doesn't have anything to do with Flint.

The car in Rust I is a Mildé-Kriéger AEK (basically a Licorne with electric motor), originally built on a La Licorne chassis, but later transplanted onto a Jeep frame. Does the unicorn/rainbow connection still apply?

That's the car. You just have to find the connection (not unicorn/rainbow). Take the idea of another solution and apply it to this answer found so far.

Krieger = 'warrior' in German
